Over the following centuries, Marrakech was ruled by different dynasties, including the Almohads, the Saadians and the Alawites, the current ruling dynasty. Each dynasty made its contribution to the history and architecture of the city. Under the Almohads, Marrakech became an important political and cultural center. The dynasty undertook major construction projects, including the construction of the famous city walls, which are still visible today. The Almohads also developed emblematic monuments such as the Koutoubia mosque and the Menara gardens.
In the 16th century, the Saadian dynasty ruled Marrakech and left its mark through the construction of magnificent palaces, such as the Bahia Palace and the Saadian Tombs. These historic sites bear witness to the artistic and architectural refinement of the Saadian era.
